Placement Testing

Upon admission to the College, students may be required to complete ACCUPLACER placement testing. Test results are used to assist in selecting appropriate courses. If scores indicate a need to strengthen basic skills in reading, mathematics, or English, students will be required to enroll in one or more developmental and/or preparatory courses. Students may retest once in each subject area. No fee is charged for the initial placement test or for retesting.

Students who have successfully completed a college-level English and/or mathematics course with a grade of “C” or better, or who have achieved qualifying SAT or ACT scores, may be exempt from placement testing upon receipt of official transcripts and/or score reports. Additional information is available about potential exemptions is available here.

BC3 is also using a multiple-measures approach that allows recent high school graduates to be exempt from placement testing if they have a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or higher and appropriate grades in academic English and mathematics coursework.
