ACCT 221 - QuickBooks® Computerized Accounting

3 Credits: (3 lecture)

Course Description
This course is designed to introduce the students to the QuickBooks® accounting software program.  A thorough understanding of basic accounting principles and practices is required. Emphasis is on the financial accounting cycle of business, the application of accounting principles, and the production and analysis of reports.  The student must own or have convenient access to a computer with Windows on which he/she can install QuickBooks®.  

Note Required:  Online/Hybrid students must have access to a PC/Windows based computer that can be used to download software required for the course.  Fall semester only.

Prerequisite COMP 210 or OADM 107 or permission of the instructor and either ACCT 110 or ACCT 203.

Objectives
The student will be able to: 

A. Identify major components of the computer system and the accounting program. 

B. Utilize accounting software for both new and ongoing businesses. 

C. Record daily financial and payroll data. 

D. Maintain various customer, vendor, and general ledger master files. 

E. Perform end-of-period closing entries.  

F. Produce basic financial statements. 

G. Correct errors in the accounting records. 

H. Solve accounting problems and technical questions.

D. General accounting and end-of-period procedures. 

E. Payroll. 

F. Conversion of a manual accounting system to a computerized accounting system. 

Student Evaluation
Objectives A-H will be evaluated using chapter assignments, quizzes, comprehensive problems, and chapter exams.
