CHEM 103 - Modern Instrumental Methods In Chemical Analysis

1 Credits: (1 lecture, 2 lab)

Course Description
An introduction to modern instrumental methods in chemical analysis will be conveyed. Emphasis will be on electrochemical analysis, spectrophotometry, and chromatography. The course will develop concepts which are fundamental to measurement systems. Field trips may be required. 

Note Spring semester only.

Prerequisite CHEM 101 or equivalent.

A. Utilize the theories and applications of electrochemical cells

B. Apply theories and methods of determination using ultra-violet and visible spectroscopy

C. Define theories and applications of atomic absorption

D. Apply theories and methods of determination using chromatography

E. Analyze fundamental theory of Mass Spectrometry and X-ray diffraction

Evaluation is based upon attendance, competency in using instrumentation, and a final report with an oral presentation
