SPAN 102 - Spanish II 3 Credits: (3 lecture)
Course Description This is a functional course which includes the fundamentals of understanding, speaking, reading and writing in correct and idiomatic Spanish. Selected cultural material will be used to enhance the basic skills. The second semester will expand upon the fundamentals of Spanish and improve proficiency. Prerequisite Two semesters of high school Spanish, SPAN 101, or consent of instructor.

Objectives The student will be able to:
A. Expand his/her understanding, speaking, reading, and writing abilities.
B. Increase his/her ability to converse using expressions commonly found in daily living.
C. Broaden his/her reading and comprehension skills in the target language.
D. Increase his/her level of proficiency in writing Spanish.
Content A. Conversation and Pronunciation: Will be based text work, in addition to supplementary materials (i.e., films, stories, current events). Proper pronunciation will be stressed via tapes, teacher and other models, and films.
B. Grammar: Examples presented in text and expanded upon in supplemental materials and exercises both oral and written.
C. Reading and Writing: Through use of the text and supplemental materials, the student’s comprehension capabilities are increased.
D. Culture: Films, tapes, stories, and other materials will be the basis for further understanding of Hispanic societies. Emphasis will be placed on understanding differences among cultures.
Student Evaluation Testing will be by means such as oral, dictation, and written comprehension. Class participation, homework, and recitations will also be means of evaluation.
