NURS 102 - Nursing II: Nursing Care of Patients Throughout the Lifespan

9 Credits: (5 lecture, 12 lab)

Course Description
This course prepares the student to provide evidence-based nursing care to individuals of varied age groups. Students will use the best evidence in providing and managing safe nursing care for: maternity patients and their newborns, pediatric patients, and adult patients with common chronic disorders in a variety of settings.

Prerequisite NURS 101, NURS 141, BIOL 131, PHED 125, and PSYC 201.Corequisite NURS 142, BIOL 132 and PSYC 203.

Objectives
The student will be able to 

A. demonstrate accountability in nursing practice involving individuals throughout the lifespan. 

B.  recognize cultural preferences when providing nursing care throughout the lifespan. 

C.  select appropriate communication techniques when providing care for individuals across the lifespan. 

D. explain problem solving strategies used in the nursing care of individuals throughout the lifespan. 

E. choose appropriate health promotion activities for individuals and their families. 

F. describe how the nurse directs and manages care for individuals of various ages. 

G. interpret evidence based data (information) in the nursing care of individuals in various developmental stages of life. 

H. demonstrate professional behavior in the care of pediatric and adult patients.

E. Physical growth and development 

F. Nursing care of the adult with common chronic health problems 

G.Nursing care related to basic fluid and electrolyte concepts 

Student Evaluation
Course evaluation will be based on quizzes, examinations, written assignments, comprehensive final examination, return demonstration, and clinical evaluation.
