ARTS 101 - Introduction to Art 3 Credits: (3 lecture)
Course Description This course is a survey of contemporary and past arts intended to develop visual discrimination and appreciation of art forms.

Objectives The student will be able to:
A. Demonstrate ability to evaluate art products and the visual environment.
B. Show an understanding toward art that is socially relevant and individually satisfying.
C. Explain basic principles of art and apply them to recognized masterpieces.
D. Demonstrate ability to recognize the aesthetics of visual dealing in our environment.
E. Discuss the uses made by society of the various art fields.
Content The survey includes an overview of the concepts and functions of art; the visual elements of line, shape, color, texture and space; the principles of design as formal organization; the media and methods used in visual arts; and arts of the major historical periods, including arts of North America.
