BUSN 210 - Employee Training and Development 3 Credits: (3 lecture)
Course Description This course is designed to acquaint the student with Human Resource Managerial (HRM) skills in the area of employee training and development. Emphasis will be placed upon interpersonal and organizational communication skills used in human resource departments, interviewing skills, feedback, motivation, change and problem solving as they relate to HR departments and HRM goal attainment. Students will have an opportunity to actively practice desired behaviors in the above areas.

Objectives The student will be able to:
A. Explain HRM effectiveness as it relates to interpersonal communication.
B. Identify key behaviors associated with successful HR managers.
C. Use oral and written communication skills.
D. Discuss the HR manager’s role in planning, goal setting, work design, and performance appraisal.
E. Apply creative problem solving techniques to current HR issues.
F. Discuss the hiring process from an HR perspective.
G. Identify the key elements of organizational change and motivation as they relate to HRM.

Student Evaluation Student grades will be based on a combination of interactive exercises, video case analysis, case write ups, in-class simulations, a minimum of 4 exams including a final exam, quizzes, and projects.
