COMP 210 - Productivity Applications 3 Credits: (3 lecture)
Course Description This course is designed to foster computer literacy. It introduces students to the basics of computing hardware, electronic communication, web browsing, and productivity software. Through a hands-on approach, students will achieve a working knowledge of Windows operating system software and word processing, electronic spreadsheet, presentation, and database application software. This course meets the General Education competency of Technological Competence (TC).
Note Additional Materials: Access to a Windows computer capable of running Office 2021/Office 365: Word®, Excel®, Access® and PowerPoint®. (Students can download these applications for free through their BC3 email account.) Online sections are required to have, and all other sections are recommended to have, a webcam and Respondus Lockdown Browser installed on their computer.
Prerequisite Satisfactory score on Reading placement test or “C” or better in either ENGL 029 (Developmental Reading) or ENGL 030 (Preparatory Reading).
Text A minimum of four months of Cengage Unlimited, which will include access to the digital copy of the following textbook:

Objectives The student will be able to:
A. Describe hardware components in each of the 5 basic categories: Input, Processing, Output, Storage, and Communication.
B. Utilize electronic communication, primarily email. (TC)
C. Retrieve information from the World Wide Web for college and workplace requirements.
D. Create an organized structure of folders to store files in a Windows operating system environment.
E. Utilize word processing software to create, store, format, and print documents. (TC)
F. Manipulate spreadsheet data via formatting, formulas, functions, and charts. (TC)
G. Present topics via a simple slide series using presentation software. (TC)
H. Create database tables, forms, queries, and reports. (TC)

Student Evaluation Objectives A-H will be evaluated through quizzes, exams, and hands-on projects via the online-tool.
Objective B will be evaluated by a hands-on email exercise utilizing sending and receiving an email with attachment(s).
Objectives A-F will be evaluated by a proctored standardized departmental mid-term exam.
Objectives A, G, and H will be evaluated by a proctored standardized departmental final exam.
