COMP 242 - Microcomputing Applications 3 Credits: (3 lecture)
Course Description This course emphasizes an integrated microcomputer applications suite to develop higher-level skills in electronic spreadsheets and database. A common theme will be integrating the various software applications through object linking and embedding. Students will complete numerous hands-on projects to improve their skills.
Prerequisite COMP 210 or successful completion of the exemption test.
Text A minimum of four months of Cengage Unlimited, which will include access to the digital copy of the following textbook:

Objectives The student will be able to:
A. Apply spreadsheet concepts and techniques to solve problems involving formulas, including relative and absolute addressing.
B. Perform data management and reporting techniques, such as charts, pivot tables, and solver.
C. Utilize proper design, creation, and updating techniques on a database by setting up tables and establishing their relationships.
D. Manipulate the data and/or structure of a database via the database form, query, and report productivity tools.
E. Utilize Object Linking and Embedding (OLE) concepts.

Student Evaluation The student’s grade will be based on scores from exams and numerous hands-on projects. Exams will include both written questions and hands-on exercises.
