OADM 107 - Document Formatting with Keyboarding 3 Credits: (3 lecture)
Course Description This course provides an introduction to the Windows operating system software, electronic communication, and a comprehensive knowledge in business document formatting. Students create and format memos, letters, and reports in a Windows environment where emphasis is placed on proofreading skills and professionalism, as well as keyboarding speed and accuracy. This course meets the General Education competency of Technological Competence (TC).

Objectives The student will be able to:
A. Utilize electronic communication. (TC)
B. Organize files and folders in Windows Explorer. (TC)
C. Perform basic file management activities of creating, saving, deleting, printing, and closing documents. (TC)
D. Attain proficiency in basic Microsoft® Word commands. (TC)
E. Utilize proper formatting guidelines in the creation of memos, letters, reports, tables, and forms. (TC)
F. Apply appropriate editing, formatting, and styles to documents. (TC)
G. Create documents independently. (TC)
H. Demonstrate correct English usage in spelling, punctuation, syllabication, and capitalization.
I. Demonstrate the basic techniques of keyboarding: stroking, response patterns, and manipulative control.
J. Demonstrate keyboarding speed with control and accuracy.

Student Evaluation Objectives A through H will be evaluated through the following:
Any combination of module assignments, online learning assignments, participation, module exams and / or module quizzes
Departmental Comprehensive Hands-On Final Exam = 20% of the final grade
Objectives I and J will be evaluated through the following:
Timed writings = 25% of final grade. The timed writing grade is based on a verified speed and proper technique. A verified speed is one that has been attained at least three times. The basis for the timed writing speed will be five-minute straight copy writings. Five errors are allowed on a five-minute writing.
