PHYS 100 - Descriptive Physics 4 Credits: (3 lecture, 2 lab)
Course Description This course prepares students who have had no experience with physics for entry into college physics and technology courses. This course will cover a number of fundamental physical principles and their applications. This course is not intended to be taken by students who have successfully completed Physics I. This course meets the General Education competency of Scientific Reasoning (SR).
Prerequisite MATH 090 or MATH 091

Objectives The student will be able to:
A. Apply fundamental principles of physics.
B. Use algebra to solve basic physics problems.
C. Describe elementary physics situations conceptually and/or quantitatively.
D. Apply elementary physics principles during laboratory experiments.
E. Apply the scientific method. (SR)
F. Utilize basic laboratory equipment appropriate to the discipline. (SR)

D. Work, energy, conservation of energy.
E. Momentum and collisions.
F. Rotational motion.
G. Properties of matter.
H. Temperature, heat and thermodynamics.
I. Electricity and magnetism.
J. Mechanical and sound waves.
K. Light and optics.
L. Atomic and nuclear physics.
Student Evaluation The objectives will be evaluated as follows:
Objectives A, B, and C will be evaluated through homework assignments, quizzes, tests, and a final exam.
Objectives D, E, and F will be evaluated through laboratory exercise
