PKMT 201 - Park Management Practicum

2 Credits: (1 lecture, 8 work hours per week)

Course Description
This is a supervised work experience designed to allow the student to grow professionally, identify strengths and weaknesses, and apply learned theory to practical situations. The student will gain an appreciation of the roles, duties, responsibilities, and nature of the work that has been chosen as a career.

Objectives
The student will be able to:

A. Apply knowledge learned in the academic setting to the professional workplace.

B. Engage in a supervised career experience.

C. Complete one specific major project as assigned by the agency.

D. Identify personal educational/experience strengths and weaknesses.

Content
A. A required pre-experience orientation session with faculty advisor.

B. Two hundred hours of work experience under the direction of a qualified park and recreation professional.

Student Evaluation
Student’s grade will be based upon:

A. Completing a minimum of 200 hours of work

B. Maintaining a daily journal of practical experiences.

C. Completion of specific major agency project.

D. On-site evaluation by faculty advisor.

E. Written evaluation of student by agency supervisor.

F. Completion of three to five page paper regarding practicum experience.Bibliography
