PSYC 210 - Psychological and Sociological Bases of Sport

3 Credits: (3 lecture)

Course Description
This course is designed to provide the student with an understanding of the relationships between sport and various psychological and sociological factors. The psychological emphasis is placed on the micro or individual level. The sociological emphasis is placed on the macro level.

Prerequisite PSYC 201 or permission of instructor.

Objectives
The student will be able to:

A. Explain the historical development of sport, play, and exercise from a psychological and sociological perspective.

B. Identify and describe the factors involved in sport as a microcosm of society.

C. Examine and explain the relationship between Sport Psychology, Sport

Sociology, Sport Socialization, and the Social Psychology of Sport.

D. Assess a variety of training skills and techniques employed to enhance athletic performance and personal growth.

E. Identify and analyze legal and ethical issues in sport, such as sexism, racism, and ageism.

Student Evaluation
