PTAP 105 - Seminar II

2 Credits: (2 lecture)

Course Description
This course provides an overview of fiscal considerations for Physical Therapist Assistant, accreditation agencies, quality improvement, human resources, the historical development of Physical Therapy professions, and Standards of Ethical Conduct. Contemporary issues affecting Physical Therapy will be included. This is the final class of the Physical Therapist Assistant Program and will prepare the student for employment after graduation.

Prerequisite PTAP 101 and PTAP 123. Corequisite PTAP 124.

Objectives
The student will be able to

A. Identify components of the budgetary process and fiscal reimbursement in Physical Therapy.

B. Describe activities of voluntary accrediting agencies and mandatory government agencies.

C. Explain the purpose of performing quality improvement.

D. Examine characteristics of employee appraisals, levels of authority, and responsibility in Physical Therapy.

E. Develop job marketing skills.

F. Determine appropriate actions in relation to ethics and standards of conduct.

Student Evaluation
The student will be evaluated on quizzes, ethical case studies, case analyses, attendance and participation with group projects. Additionally, the student will construct a cover letter, resume, and personal portfolio, and will participate in a mock job interview.Bibliography
