TECH 120 - Load Calculations 3 Credits: (3 lecture)
Course Description This course is a comprehensive study of the fundamentals of heat loss and gain calculations. The student will analyze environmental conditions, load factors, construction materials, and psychometric characteristics. Load calculations will be performed using the Right J for Windows computer software.

Objectives The student will be able to:
A. Describe the principles used in building heat loss and heat gain calculations.
B. Calculate the maximum rates of heat transfer through the building envelope.
C. Compute the infiltration load.
D. Determine winter design heating load of a building.
E. Determine summer design cooling load of a building.
F. Explain the importance of air properties as related to occupant comfort.
G. Complete system selection and arrangement.

Student Evaluation Homework and/or weekly quizzes, exams, and a final project demonstrating knowledge of all content related to load calculations.
