TECH 220 - HVAC System Design 3 Credits: (2 lecture, 2 lab)
Course Description This course will provide students with the knowledge of heating, ventilation, air conditioning (HVAC), and duct system design. It explores layout and sizing of equipment, computation of cost, and job estimation.
Note Fall semester only.
Prerequisite TECH 120.

Objectives The student will be able to:
A. Prepare the layout of the ventilation and duct work.
B. Determine the size of the ventilation and duct work.
C. Design a hydronic system for a building.
D. Explain the performance of fans and pumps.
E. Identify specifications and drawings required for mechanical systems.
F. Develop methods to control indoor contaminants.
G. Conform to interpreted national and local codes.
H. Develop a proposal for an HVAC system.

D. Variable air volume systems
E. Heating and cooling equipment selection
F. Piping systems fundamentals
G. Operating cost analysis and estimates
H. Humidification and air filtration
I. Heat recovery ventilation systems and economizers
Student Evaluation Homework and/or weekly quizzes, exams, and a final project demonstrating knowledge of content related to systems design.
