COMP 099 - Preparatory Computer Skills

3 Credits: (3 lecture)

Course Description
This course is designed for students with little or no computer experience. Its focus is on practice and reinforcement of essential computer skills, particularly Windows file and folder management. An introduction to basic terminology, software applications, e-mail, and the College’s current Learning Management System (LMS) will also be covered.

Objectives
The student will be able to: 

A. Utilize the keyboard and keyboard shortcuts. 

B. Operate the mouse. 

C. Define basic hardware and software terms. 

D. Utilize the LMS and e-mail to submit homework files.  

E. Define basic computer terms.  

F. Utilize the Windows interface. 

G. Manage files in Windows Explorer. 

H. Organize files using folders and libraries in the Windows operating system. 

I. Create basic PowerPoint, Word, and Excel files.

Student Evaluation
The final grade will be based on assignments, a minimum of four exams, and both a final exam and hands-on final project.
