EMST 200 - EMS Practicum 2 Credits: (1 lecture, 8 work hours per week)
Course Description This is a supervised EMS work experience designed to allow the student to grow professionally, identify strengths and weaknesses, and apply learned theory to practical situations. The student will gain an appreciation of the roles, duties, responsibilities, and nature of the work that has been chosen as a career.
Prerequisite EMT Certification and ENGL 101 or ENGL 110.

Objectives The student will be able to:
A. Apply knowledge learned in the academic setting to operate in the professional workplace.
B. Write a daily journal on the supervised career experience.
C. Identify personal educational/experience strengths and weaknesses through the composition of a reflective paper.
D. Complete a portfolio project as assigned.
E. Operate effectively with all personnel involved in a professional EMS System.
Content A. A required pre-experience orientation session with faculty advisor.
B. One hundred twenty (120) hours of work experience under the direction of qualified EMS professional and administrative staff.
Student Evaluation Successful course completion will be based upon:
A. 120 hours of field/administrative work evaluated by the student practicum supervisor.
B. A daily journal summarizing practicum experiences.
C. A reflective paper analyzing personal strengths and weaknesses as they apply to an EMS system.
D. Assigned portfolio project.
E. Satisfactory evaluation of the student by practicum supervisor(s).
