ENGL 036 - Developmental Integrated Reading and Writing 4 Credits: (4 lecture)
Course Description This course is designed for the student requiring in-depth reading and writing skill development to succeed in the college environment. In the context of the writing process, the course focuses on essential reading comprehension and retention skills. In preparation for English I, the student will engage in an intensive study of Standard American English sentence and essay construction, vocabulary, active reading strategies, and summation techniques.
Prerequisite A grade of C or higher of students enrolled is a prerequisite for English 101.

Objectives The student will be able to:
A. Apply reading comprehension strategies to a variety of readings.
B. Respond to readings in written form.
C. Analyze texts.
D. Execute the steps of the writing process.
E. Write a paragraph of summation with a clear topic sentence and supporting details.
F. Write a third-person essay with an introduction, a clear thesis statement, supporting details, and a conclusion.
G. Use the conventions of Standard American English as presented in the current handbook to eliminate errors.
