GENL 202 - Presidential Scholars Project 1 Credits: (1 lecture)
Course Description The Presidential Scholars Project is a student-centered learning activity providing an opportunity for a deeper understanding of a specific area or topic. Individual faculty mentors oversee the projects and decide how best to achieve these learning outcomes based on the needs and skills of the specific students.
Prerequisite GENL 201.
Text At the discretion of the instructor.
Objectives The student will be able to:
A. Design a project and a plan to investigate that question.
B. Explain the progress and process of project to a faculty mentor.
C. Demonstrate the ability to complete the project.
D. Explain the benefits and shortcomings of various elements of the plan and project.
E. Explain the project in a public forum.
Content A. Project Management Skills
B. Project Presentation Skills
C. Project Design Skills
D. No fewer than four meetings regarding their writing and research with faculty or industry mentor
Student Evaluation A. Development of a project comprising of primary and secondary research sources and a self-evaluatory, reflective essay
B. Creation of a research journal
C. Development of a project comprising of primary and secondary research sources and a self-evaluatory, reflective essay
D. Presentation of the Scholars project in a poster session
