BUSN 102 - Business Law

Course Description
This course introduces law and the judicial system as it functions in a democratic society. Topics covered include: functions of the courts, litigation, contracts, torts, criminal law, product and service liability, consumer and worker protection, environmental issues, business organizations and their liabilities, and other selected topics.

Objectives
The student will be able to:

A. Describe the state and federal court systems. 

B. Distinguish between various types of torts.

C. Identify major white-collar crimes and challenges E-commerce has on the legal system. 

D. Explain the relationship between business ethics and the law. 

E. Demonstrate an understanding of contracts, warranties, and liabilities. 

F. Explain the impact governmental agencies have on business, including environmental, consumer, and worker protections.

D. Protecting individuals: Worker and consumer protection.

E. Protecting society: Administrative laws and environmental controls.

F. Protecting groups: Discrimination in Employment, Labor law.

G. Warranties, Title to Goods and Risk of Loss.

H. Secured Transactions, Bankruptcy and reorganization.

I. Personal property, bailment, and real property.

Student Evaluation
Objectives A through I will be assessed using a combination of exams, case studies, quizzes, projects, and assignments.
