PTAP 105 - Seminar II

2 Credits: (2 lecture)

Course Description
This course is the final class of the Physical Therapist Assistant Program and prepares the student for employment after graduation.  Final topics include the completion of a comprehensive student portfolio and mock job interview.  Governing and regulatory agencies will be examined, as will the basics of reimbursement, departmental operations, professional development and specialization, and professional standards of conduct and codes of ethics.  Corequisite: PTAP 124.          

Prerequisite PTAP 101 and PTAP 123. Corequisite PTAP 124.

Objectives
The student will be able to:

A.  Identify the components of the budgetary and staffing process, fiscal reimbursement, and other departmental operations in Physical Therapy.

B.  Describe activities of voluntary accrediting agencies and mandatory government agencies.

C.  Explain the purpose and components of performing quality improvement.

D.  Examine characteristics of employee appraisals, levels of authority, and responsibility in Physical Therapy.

E.  Develop job marketing and professional development and advancement skills.

F.  Determine appropriate actions in relation to ethics and standards of conduct situations.

G.  Complete a student portfolio, resume, cover letter, and mock job interview.

H.  Describe the history and development of the field of Physical Therapy and the American Physical Therapy Association.
