PTAP 123 - Procedures III 5 Credits: (3 lecture, 2 lab) First 11 weeks
Course Description The third of four sequential courses, this class will cover adult neurorehabilitation and prosthetics. Assessment and treatment activities for stroke (CVA), brain injury, spinal cord injury, and other nervous system pathologies will be covered, as well as prosthetic rehabilitation.
Prerequisite PTAP 122. Corequisite PTAP 230.

Objectives The student will be able to:
A. Identify the various clinical manifestations and movement disorders for patients with neurological disorders.
B. Implement appropriate assessment activities for patients with neurological disorders.
C. Implement appropriate treatment strategies for patients with neurological movement disorders.
D. Explain the principles, mechanics, and various types and components for orthotic interventions with neuromuscular conditions.
E. State the theories and components of motor control and motor learning.
F. Describe the biomechanics, pathomechanics, and prosthetic componentry for patients with lower extremity amputations.
G. Implement appropriate assessment and treatment strategies for patients with lower extremity amputations.
H. Demonstrate appropriate communication skills with mock patients and caregivers.
I. Document appropriate aspects of patient interactions.
