PTAP 124 - Procedures IV 5 Credits: (3 lecture, 2 lab) First 7 weeks
Course Description This course is the fourth of four sequential courses, involving a variety of specific patient populations. Topics will include wound care, cardiopulmonary Physical Therapy, pediatrics, geriatrics, and women’s health topics.
Prerequisite PTAP 123 and PTAP 230. Corequisite PTAP 105.

Objectives The student will be able to:
A. Describe appropriate skin and wound assessment techniques.
B. Perform common prevention and treatment interventions for the various types of wounds.
C. Perform common assessment and treatment strategies for patients with cardiopulmonary dysfunction.
D. Describe the components of normal pediatric motor development, including gross and fine motor skills and developmental reflexes.
E. Identify common pediatric population pathologies and abnormal developmental characteristics.
F. Identify appropriate interventions to improve function in the pediatric population.
G. Describe the characteristics of physical and physiologic changes that occur in the pediatric and geriatric populations.
H. Implement age-appropriate treatment interventions for the geriatric patient population.
I. Explain Physical Therapy interventions for various women’s health topics, including obstetrics and reproductive system pathologies.
J. Demonstrate appropriate communications skills with mock patients and caregivers.
K. Document appropriate aspects of patient interactions.
