AHEA 225 - Medical Coding Certification Preparation 3 Credits: 3 Lecture
Course Description This course prepares students to take certification exams offered by professional coding organizations. Students will review medical coding guidelines and examination strategies.
Prerequisite Completion of 32 credits in the program with at least a “C” average and permission of the instructor.
Objectives The student will be able to: A. Practice test-taking techniques to prepare for a medical coding certification exam. B. Demonstrate effective study skills focused on medical coding examination content. C. Use appropriate coding guidelines to code from medical documentation. D. Audit medical reports for coding accuracy. E. Investigate the role of professional organizations in maintaining medical coding credentials. F. Construct a professional portfolio.
