SOCW 215 - Introduction to Addiction Recovery 3 Credits: 3
Course Description This course provides an in-depth look at counseling techniques considered most effective in the treatment of addictive disorders. Students will study theory and knowledge of treatment practices, including the following topics: working relationships, stages of change, treatment modalities, case management, intervention techniques, assessment, and placement. With instructor approval, students will complete a minimum of 30 hours of field-based experience in a clinical environment addressing addiction recovery.

C. Identify levels of care during stages of change.
D. Utilize evidence-based practices.
E. Identify steps in building working relationships with clients.
F. Explain stages of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.
G. Discuss family counseling interventions.
H. Identify relapse prevention strategies.
I. Demonstrate professional behavior through effective communication, ethical decision making, and adhere to industry standards.
J. Collaborate with other helping professionals to assist in planning and coordinating treatment.
