DRFT 115 - Engineering Graphics

3 Credits: (2 lecture, 4 lab)

Course Description
This course introduces engineering graphics as a means to communicate solutions to technical problems. Tools such as orthographic projection, sectioning, dimensioning, and parametric modeling are emphasized. Parametric modeling software is utilized.  Physical parts are created using 3D printing technologies.

Note Fall semester only.

Prerequisite ENGL 101 eligible.

Objectives
The student will be able to:

A. Apply the engineering design process.

B. Convey design ideas graphically using orthographic projection techniques.

C. Incorporate dimensions and annotations into design documents.

D. Create parametric models which incorporate design intent.

E. Document design outputs using drawings compliant with national and industrial standards.

F. Produce rapid prototypes from parametric models.

Content
A. Drafting conventions and standards.

B. Orthographic and 3-dimensional projection.

C. Parametric modeling.

D. Design intent.

E. Part and assembly drawings.

F. Dimensions and annotations.

G. Rapid prototyping.

Student Evaluation
The objectives will be evaluated as follows:  A, B, C, D, E, and F will be evaluated using graphic assignments, tests and a final examination (or project).
