PKMT 102 - Leadership Development for Recreation Professionals3 Credits: (3 lecture)
Course Description This course introduces leadership principles and group dynamics as applied to parks, recreation, and outdoor settings. Emphasis is placed on leadership development, communication, motivation, conflict management, and ethical decision-making. Skills developed in this course are transferable to a wide range of professional and organizational environments.

Objectives The student will be able to:
A. Examine foundational leadership theories and styles relevant to recreation and leisure services.
B. Demonstrate effective leadership techniques in structured group and activity-based settings.
C. Analyze group dynamics and individual behavior within professional environments.
D. Apply communication, motivation, and conflict-management strategies to manage individuals and teams.
E. Identify ethical, social, and professional responsibilities in leadership situations.
F. Evaluate personal leadership strengths, limitations, and areas for professional growth.
G. Construct feedback to peers during leadership and facilitation experiences.

Student Evaluation The objectives will be evaluated as follows: A, C, D tests- B, D, E, F, G assignments and class participation. Specific evaluation methods and grading criteria will be outlined at the beginning of the semester.
