6 Credits: 4 Lecture Hours/3 Lab Hours

Course Description
This course provides an advanced review of radiographic pathology and introduces optional supplementary imaging modalities while reinforcing the essential functions of the radiologic technologist in preparation for the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) Examination in Radiography. Students continue to apply and practice the full spectrum of radiographic and fluoroscopic procedures, progressing from direct to indirect supervision under certified technologists and radiologists. The course emphasizes competency, professional practice, and clinical decision-making.

Objectives
The student will be able to:

  1. Identify a full range of human pathologies as diagnosed within a radiology department.
  2. Operate radiology department computer systems for imaging, data management, and documentation purposes.
  3. Manipulate technical factors and imaging equipment to produce high-quality radiographs using analog, computer, and digital radiology systems.
  4. Apply density, contrast, detail, and distortion imaging formulas for both basic and complex radiographic procedures.
  5. Produce image formations required for each examination, including supplementary and advanced imaging modalities.
  6. Document how human pathology is detected by radiologists and clinical staff, ensuring accurate patient records.
  7. Analyze clinical and technical problems, including preparing for the ARRT examination through review and competency demonstrations.
  8. Demonstrate professional competency in performing all assigned radiographic tasks, equipment operation, and clinical procedures under minimal supervision, adhering to program and accrediting agency standards.
