Microsoft® Office Specialist (001)
Workplace Certificate

This workplace certificate provides students with skills in the Microsoft® Office applications. Students are encouraged to sit for Microsoft® Office Certification exams upon completion of the program. Earning a Microsoft® Office Specialist Certificate allows individuals to validate essential software application skills required in all occupations. Successful completion of this program may potentially lead to professional licensure. Licensure may be global, national, or state-specific. This program meets requirements for the State of Pennsylvania. Requirements for other states may vary.

“The most required skills across all occupations include oral and written communication skills, attention to detail, customer service focus, organizational skills, and problem-solving skills. It is notable that the only software package called out within the top 20 skills across all occupations is Microsoft Office: Microsoft Office is number 3 on the list of most required skills, and Microsoft PowerPoint and Microsoft Word are number 11 and number 13.” Source: IDC, based on WANTED Analytics and U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics data, October 2013.

Prerequisites: A grade of “C” or better in either COMP 210 or OADM 107 or passing an exemption test for COMP 210 or OADM 107.
