Technical Trades - HVAC Option (314A)
Associate in Applied Science Degree

This program prepares students for careers in the Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning industry. The curriculum enables students to gain hands-on experience while being offered theoretical instruction to enter the HVAC industry. The program focuses on the installation and diagnosis of electro-mechanical and HVAC systems. A graduate of this program seeks employment as a HVAC installer, mechanic, service technician, sheet metal worker, electrician and pipe fitter.

Successful completion of this program may potentially lead to professional licensure/certification.  Licensure/certification may be global, national, or state-specific.  This program meets requirements for the State of Pennsylvania.  Requirements for other states may vary.

Butler County Community College does not provide training for the fourth semester certifications. The training to obtain these certifications can be obtained from vocational/technical schools with an HVAC program or a comparable school: trade schools, career technical centers (CTCs), etc. Contact the school of choice for details concerning their day/evening program or consult with the HVAC program advisor.

This is a Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (STEM) program.

1 The National Occupational Competency Testing Institute (NOCTI) provides 3-6 hour testing that give students the opportunity to pass assessment of competencies in the field of study. The Industrial Competency Exam (ICE) provides 2-hour tests that give students the opportunity to pass assessment of competencies in the field of study. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) provides a 100-question, 2-hour examination that, if passed, will allow the student to use, purchase and transport refrigerant. Every HVAC technician must at a minimum successfully attain one of three EPA certifications to work in the field.

2 Physical Wellness is highly recommended.
