Civil Technology, Certificate


Civil Technology (010)
Certificate of Achievement

This program prepares students for employment in the fields of surveying, civil construction, oil and gas exploration and extraction, and civil drafting, and allows them to pursue lifelong learning. Foundational skills are developed in mathematics, science, problem solving, communication, computer-aided drafting, surveying, and construction. The core courses will transfer into the Civil Technology Associate degree program.  A graduate of this program seeks employment as a civil drafter, surveying technician, oil and gas exploration and extraction technician, and a civil engineering technician with civil engineering firms, construction firms, private consulting engineering firms, governmental agencies, and surveying firms.

 NOTE: Courses listed in the first/third semester will be scheduled for the fall; second/fourth semester courses will be scheduled for the spring. The student is encouraged to use the curriculum planner to keep track of courses taken and those still needed. In some cases, one or more courses may be taken in a different order than indicated on the planner. However, individual course prerequisites must be observed.

Note(s):


1 Calculus I (MATH 221) or Trigonometry & Functions (MATH 102) or Elementary Functions (MATH 108) may be substituted for Technical Mathematics I (MATH 117) or College Algebra (MATH 101).

2 Speech (COMM 201) may be substituted for Workplace Communications (ENGL 110) or English I (ENGL 101).

3 Technical Electives related to major are:  Environmental Science (PHSC 110), Principles of Geology (PHSC 120), Physics I (PHYS 101), Architectural Materials and Construction II (ARCH 216), and Computer-Aided Drafting I (MicroStation) (DRFT 225).

Job Readiness (GENL 111) is highly recommended for students in this program during the Sophomore year.
