Computer Aided Machining Technology, A.A.S.


Computer Aided Machining Technology (340)
Associate in Applied Science Degree

This program provides state-of-the-art skills and techniques in computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) and computer numerical control (CNC) programming to enable students to practice as CAM/CNC technicians. Fundamental principles of mathematics, science, computer-aided manufacturing, CNC programming, problem solving, and communications are demonstrated. Computer-aided drafting (CAD) is an integral part of this program. Employment opportunities for the graduate include CNC Machinist, CNC Programmer, Application Programmer, CNC Operator/Programmer, CNC Programmer/Planner, and CNC Service Representative.

NOTE: Courses listed in the first/third semester will be scheduled for the fall; second/fourth semester courses will be scheduled for the spring. The student is encouraged to use the curriculum planner to keep track of courses taken and those still needed. In some cases, one or more courses may be taken in a different order than indicated on the planner. However, individual course prerequisites must be observed.

1  Calculus I and II (MATH 221, MATH 222) or College Mathematics I and II (MATH 101, MATH 102) or Elementary Functions (MATH 108) and Calculus I (MATH 221) may be substituted for Technical Mathematics I and II (MATH 117, MATH 118).

2  Engineering Graphics (DRFT 115) may be substituted for Technical Drawing (DRFT 101).

Engineering Physics I (PHYS 221) may be substituted for Physics I (PHYS 101).

Program advisor must approve choice of electives from areas of computer programming, electronics, drafting, metrology, and/or manufacturing.  3-D Geometric Modeling (DRFT 108) is recommended.
