Apprenticeship Technology

* Update: This Program is Effective Spring 2016.

This program prepares students for careers in the metalworking trades and is designed primarily for apprentices and industrial workers.

Although listed in the Fall semester and Spring semester, the courses will be offered at a frequency, time, and location dictated by industry needs or other demonstrated student interest.

Minimum - 26 Credits

Notes:


1 Students advancing on to an associate degree are encouraged to take Technical Graphics with AutoCAD® (DRFT 120).

2 Students advancing on to an associate degree are encouraged to take Technical Math I (MATH 117) or

College Algebra (MATH 101).

3 Students advancing on to an associate degree are encouraged to take College Writing (ENGL 101).

4 Students advancing on to an associate degree are encouraged  to take Manufacturing Processes and Materials (MECH 103).

5 Program advisor must approve choice of technical emphasis elective from areas of computer programming, electronics, drafting, metrology, and/or manufacturing.   Introduction to Microcomputing (COMP 210) is recommended.

6 First Semester acceptable NIMS Credentials to satisfy the 3-credit requirements include: 

CNC MECH 114:  Measurement, Materials and Safety (MMS), CNC Milling-Setup/Programming, and CNC Turning-Setup/Programming Level I credentials

EDM Operators: MMS and Grinding Level I credentials

Grinders: MMS and Grinding Level I credentials

Manual Milling: MMS, Drill Press Level I, and Manual Milling Level I credentials

Manual Lathe: MMS, Turning-Chucking, and Turning-Between Centers Level I credentials

Press Operators: Metalforming Level I credential

7 Second Semester acceptable NIMS Credentials to satisfy the 6-credit requirements include: 

CNC MECH 120 and MECH 121: MMS, CNC Milling and Turning-Setup/Programming Level I, and CNC Milling and Turning Level II credentials

EDM Operators: Plunge EDM and Wire EDM Level II credentials

Grinders: Cylindrical Grinding or Surface Grinding Level II credentials and Stamping Parts Inspection & Quality Control Level III credentials

Manual Milling: Drill Press Level II and Manual Milling Level II credentials

Manual Lathe: Manual Turning-Chucking and Manual Turning-Between Centers Level II credentials

Press Operators: Stamping Level II Operate and Stamping Parts Inspection & Quality Control Level III credentials

Butler County Community College does not offer NIMS Certification.
