Early Childhood Education - Pre K-4 (112)
Associate in Arts Degree
The Associate in Arts Degree in Education is designed to provide the basic coursework necessary for transfer to an Early Childhood Education (Pre K-4) baccalaureate program at a four-year institution. The curriculum planner identifies a recommended course sequence for early childhood majors; however, some courses may be taken in alternative patterns as long as course prerequisites are fulfilled. The state of Pennsylvania has stringent teacher certification guidelines; therefore, the College recommends that all students adhere to the program planner sequence as much as possible. Since four-year colleges and universities determine which courses are acceptable in transfer, it is essential for all students to contact their chosen transfer institutions to verify course acceptance. Graduates in the associate program can seek employment in the education field as teacher assistants or teacher aides.
NOTE: Courses listed in the first/third semester will be scheduled for the fall; second/fourth semester courses will be scheduled for the spring. The student is encouraged to use the curriculum planner to keep track of courses taken and those still needed. In some cases, one or more courses may be taken in a different order than indicated on the planner. However, individual course prerequisites must be observed.
Prerequisites/Corequisites – Some courses require another course be taken beforehand or at the same time. To check if a course has a prerequisite or corequisite, see the course description.
