General Studies/General (100A)
Associate in Arts Degree

The degree in General Studies is intended to give the student the opportunity to explore many alternatives before making a career choice, to provide a unique program in which technology courses can complement and supplement liberal arts studies, or to allow the student to complete the first two years of basic course requirements for most baccalaureate degrees in the arts and sciences. The General Studies degree may be viewed as a pre-law or pre-med degree. It may be elected by students hoping for careers in government service, the clergy, art, drama, music, journalism, or by students wishing to expand their own horizons while continuing their present occupations. The curriculum also serves students wishing to pursue the Pre-Mortuary Science Option. The General Studies curriculum has set requirements at a minimum in order to give each student the chance to choose new intellectual experiences that provide opportunity for optimum growth. This policy places important responsibility upon the student for discrimination in making decisions. Each four-year college or university determines which BC3 courses are acceptable in transfer. Students should contact the institution for assurance prior to registering for the course at BC3.

NOTE: Courses listed in the first/third semester will be scheduled for the fall; second/fourth semester courses will be scheduled for the spring. The student is encouraged to use the curriculum planner to keep track of courses taken and those still needed. In some cases, one or more courses may be taken in a different order than indicated on the planner. However, individual course prerequisites must be observed.

Prerequisites/Corequisites – Some courses require another course be taken beforehand or at the same time. To check if a course has a prerequisite or corequisite, see the course description.
